CCO, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment
As owners of the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs, the NBA’s Toronto Raptors, and Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) is the premiere sports entertainment company in Canada and is recognized in the industry as a global leader.
Hired as a ‘day one’ employee of the Toronto Raptors in 1994, and as a key leader on the sales and marketing team as Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment was later formed, David Hopkinson has played an integral role in the growth of both MLSE and the Canadian sports and entertainment industry.
In July, 2013 David was named Chief Commercial Officer for MLSE, presiding over all sales, marketing and communications for the company’s teams and venues, leading one of the largest and most diverse sports entertainment portfolios in the industry. In addition, through unique partnership arrangements with global sports and entertainment companies like the NBA and Live Nation, David’s teams are responsible for the commercialization of all NBA television properties in Canada as well as Live Nation’s Canadian sponsorships.
With more than 20 years of sports sales and marketing experience, David plays an influential role within the industry, serving on the Board of Directors for Canada Basketball’s Board of Directors. David was recently awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of his contributions to Canada.
David, his wife Lawrie, and their daughters Claire and Miranda live in the Beach in Toronto.
