Educational Background & Media Spokesperson
With a Doctorate in Marriage & Family and certifications in Leadership and Emotional Intelligence, Dr. Karyn was invited to collaborate with professors from The Wharton School to develop an Emotional Intelligence training curriculum specifically for family businesses. John Prato, The Consul General of Canada in New York, hosted a reception in 2013 honoring her work with New York families and organizations. Over the years, she has served as the media spokesperson for Loblaws, Maple Leaf Foods, Johnson & Johnson, Microsoft, eHarmony and UNICEF.
Philanthropy & Research Supporting Her Work
Dr. Karyn is passionate about giving back! In 2011, she partnered with World Vision to build a new school in Haiti and every year sponsors school events in her community. In 2019 her work was part of a research study with McMaster University to teach her Leadership Tools to young people transitioning out of homelessness. The research results were outstanding, showing that students gained “significant improvement” in “self-esteem, purpose” after learning Dr. Karyn’s Leadership Tools. It confirmed her philosophy – “Age, education and experience are not barriers to developing Great Leadership – anyone can do it if they are hungry to learn”. The study has sparked national interest from researchers and donors for Dr. Karyn to scale her program across North America so more young people can benefit.
Dr. Karyn lives in Toronto with her adored husband (and business partner) of 18 years and high-energy twin 12-year-olds. Striving to live what she teaches, she aims to work smart and play hard! She loves her downtime at their family cottage, playing tennis, traveling, paddle-boarding, skiing, and relaxing with her girlfriends. Decorating is also a personal passion, and both her home and cottage have been featured in the national magazines House & Home and Chatelaine. She is dedicated to understanding the power that environment and organization can have on overall emotional well-being.
