Paul Sloan has been an educator for over 30 years. He began his teaching career in 1980, teaching secondary school music, English, PHE, dramatic arts, mathematics and geography in schools in southwestern and central Ontario. He also spent a year as a volunteer, teaching music and educational psychology in a teacher training centre in Botswana, Africa.

Paul entered the ranks of school administration in 1994 when he was appointed Vice Principal of Adult and Continuing Education in the Simcoe County District School Board. This appointment was followed by the Vice Principalship and Principalship at Midland Secondary School in Midland Ontario. Assignments to Student Success and Adult and Continuing Education rounded out his portfolio of principal responsibilities before he was appointed Superintendent of Education in the fall of 2009.

Paul’s focus is on continually improving student achievement and safeguarding and promoting student well-being. He is committed to working with principals and teachers to continually refine and reflect on their instructional practice, based on a sound, well-researched foundation. Finally, he sees a strong connection between the school and the community as absolutely vital in maintaining confidence in our public education system. To that end, Paul works closely with community groups, agencies, municipalities and others to ensure that our schools have a positive profile in the community, their doors open and welcoming to not only students, but to others within our communities.
